Framework

The higher-resolution model underneath the practice.

Perfect Recursion is the systems research behind this page. I use its twelve canonical stages as a model for Christian formation, tested by Scripture and by fruit.

Why twelve is worth testing

Twelve keeps appearing around formed things.

  • Tribes

    A formed people

    Genesis 49:28

  • Apostles

    A formed mission

    Matthew 10:1-4

  • Gates and foundations

    A formed dwelling

    Revelation 21:12-14

  • Crops of fruit

    Continuing life

    Revelation 22:2

My reading

Twelve repeatedly appears around a formed people, a formed mission, a formed dwelling, and continuing fruit. That makes the model worth examining.

What this evidence does and does not establish

The counts are direct: twelve tribes, twelve apostles, twelve gates and foundations, twelve crops.

The shared meaning is an interpretation. It makes a twelve-stage reading of formation worth testing by Scripture and lived fruit. It is a reason to examine the model, and the model still has to earn its place on its own.

Identity

01

Identity

Formation starts with received identity, not with proving your worth.

How this stage works

Study Stage 01

What forms

Receive identity and calling before trying to earn them through performance.

What it enables

You can make choices from belonging instead of from fear, approval, or the need to prove yourself.

Formation principle

Faith restores the starting point: trust what God has already named and given.

Ephesians 1:3-5

  • The Christian life begins with what God has already given in Christ.
  • That starting point changes how you respond to failure, rejection, success, and pressure.

Question

What am I trying to prove that I have already been given in Christ?

Ephesians 1:3-5; 1 John 3:1

Diagnosis

Find where formation is breaking down.

Start with the behavior you can see. Read backward to the quality that may be missing.

Diagnostic reading · 2 Peter

Start with the problem you can see.

Then read the sequence backward and ask which earlier quality may need attention.

What this looks like

Control

You keep trying to force the outcome, get certainty, or make other people act the way you need.

This often shows up when you feel uncertain, rejected, afraid, or unable to tolerate not knowing what happens next.

Inspect

Self-control

Can I let this stay unresolved without forcing it?

Inspect

Knowledge

What do I actually know I should do next?

Inspect

Moral excellence

Am I using my ability to serve the good or to get control?

Inspect

Faith

What am I trusting right now?

These questions help you look backward. They do not prove which layer is the problem.
